Henry Ellis and Derek Eastman direct students of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei from its UK inception in 1955.

Tadashi Abe Sensei - 1926 - 1984.

"The Aikido I knew and learned with Osensei was Budo. Since my return to Japan, I realize that what we teach today has nothing to do with this martial art.
What remains of this art inherited from Samurai, which was formed by the founder for men. Today, it is a sport of women ! "   Tadashi Abe Sensei

Tadashi Abe Sensei began his Aikido study with Osensei in 1942, he was the first official AikiKai representative to Europe.

Right: Tadashi Abe Sensei and Kenshiro Abbe Sensei.

Tadashi Abe Sensei visited the UK in 1958 at the invitation of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei, he would make several visits before the arrival of Mutsuro Nakazono Sensei in 1961 and Masamichi Noro Sensei in 1962.

Deludo
If only Tadashi Abe Sensei could see senior Aikidoka  today - throwing with a nod of the head - no touch throws - breathing through their toes - Aikido Ribbon Dancing - Freezing students - Music in the Dojo - Ki Blasts /  Rest in Peace - Tadashi Abe Sensei.

Abe Sensei was a hard man in every way, he was small but powerful and dynamic. During the second world war he had trained and qualified as a one man suicide pilot of a ` Kaiten `  ( Return to the Sky ) submarine, which in reality was a glorified torpedo. TK Chiba Sensei personally told me that Abe Sensei was his hero and he told me how Abe Sensei was in preparation to go into action with the Kaiten when the war suddenly ended - Chiba Sensei said that Abe Sensei felt to the day he died that fate had cheated him of his destiny to die for his Emperor and Japan.

1959/60 - Kenshiro Abbe Sensei would often call in to the Hut Dojo in his suit, kick off his shoes and come on the mat to teach. Here he is teaching irimi, he would insist that you do not just `enter` your opponent - you walk through them - Henry Ellis centre of group - Henry again with uke Derek Eastman. In those early days there were no names for the many techniques, Abbe Sensei would simply say "necessary this action " , to be honest this worked just fine,

Abbe Sensei often taught with the use of a Shinai, a tap on the offending body part was a clear indication where the problem was. Abbe Sensei would say " my English not good, Shinai speak fluently ".

The British Aikido Board can make your Day Dreams a Reality

THE BRITISH AIKIDO BOARD EXPOSED.

BAB - The Governing Body for UK Aikido
" The B A B  Maintain Standards in UK Aikido" ( lol )

Simply pay your dues and the BAB will accept any, and all grades, without question, many up to 8th dan - Self appointed titles of Shihan and Hanshi are welcomed. The British Aikido Board as with the proud claim of the `Salvation Army `  They are known to never turn anyone away.

If one has huge round objects, and enough members to present themselves as the first pioneer of UK Aikido to the BAB, as Mr Jack Poole did - The BAB, will totally ignore the first hand knowledge of the three surviving pioneers of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei, along with the documented history and factual evidence which they actually refused to look at despite fully knowing the truth, the BAB will not only believe them, they will publicly honour them in front of the full membership at their national seminar.

The first BAB UK 9th dan is waiting in the wings of a dojo somewhere near you. Don't be shy, the BAB are waiting for you.

For a  fee, one can simply go on the BAB website and actually download the dan grade certificate of their choice. ( don't wait until Christmas - order your black belt certificate now! )

It is common now to see self-promoted high grades claiming to be " British Aikido Board Approved ". The self graded are grading others in an orgy of high grades never before seen in the history of British Aikido.

I remember Kenshiro Abbe Sensei being the `only` 6th dan Aikido in the UK - Ken Williams Sensei was the highest graded UK student at 3rd dan along with four of us that were second dans.

There are so many self graded high grades that have awarded themselves grades higher than our early great Budo teachers - Kenshiro Abbe - Tadashi Abe - Mutsuro Nakazono - Masamichi Noro - R.I.P.

As with the proverbial red phone box, we now have a BAB approved 6th dan in every town and village - is that progress ? I think not.

The BAB executive members have awarded themselves a `honorarium` or share-out of £1000 each - per year - of the members money, ``your money``

It should be noted that many UK Aikido organisations including the ` Ellis Schools of Traditional Aikido` are not members of the British Aikido Board.

Documented evidence of the crass conduct of the UK Governing Body for Aikido.
Henry Ellis ( ex- BAB founder member ) dared to question the devious conduct of the BAB -  The BAB despite knowing that Henry Ellis did not even have a motoring offence against his good name and character - began to spread many slanderous rumours that Mr Ellis had been charged with "GBH" grievous bodily harm - a charge second only to murder, a charge that can carry a life prison sentence - This slander  and defamation was exposed by a ex-senior BAB executive. See letter in video slide show above.

Detailing the BAB's attempted collusion with one Mr Jack Poole to change forever the true proud history and lineage of British Aikido, from its inception to the UK in 1955 by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei.

Henry Ellis was actually Mr Poole's first teacher, as one can clearly see from the large collection of photos and statements, this did not deter the BAB who place members and their money before principals and integrity -  The BAB proudly paraded Mr Poole alongside his own teacher as a `Pioneer of British Aikido` - despite being fully aware of the truth.

                                                               IMAGINE

""Imagine"" -  you are a direct student of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei and recognised by the Doshu and TK Chiba as a true pioneer of British Aikido .
The BAB - UK Aikido governing body for Aikido invites you to receive an award in recognition of your achievements  - As you wait to be presented to the Lord Mayor of Birmingham - you hear a shuffling sound - you look behind - standing there unannounced and totally unashamed is one of your old students, he is not included in the event posters - event programmes, yet, here he is in line to receive the same award as a pioneer - unbelievable.
You could not make this up - The BAB did.

Rik `hammer` Ellis - Aikido - MMA wins Light Heavy weight UK1 MMA Title

Rik Ellis the son of Henry Ellis Shihan, a student of Aikido from the age of five years and continues to enjoy his Aikido as taught by his father a direct student of the legendary Budo master Kenshiro Abbe Sensei.
Rik believes in his fathers teaching that whilst Aikido can be practised in harmony in the dojo - it is totally unsuitable for application in the street at a time of need. Teachers should teach students how to adapt their Aikido to meet any, and all hostile situations - The problem is - many teachers are unable to adapt.
Rik believes in `Positive Aikido` - If threatened - take a positive approach - deflect your opponents attack - enter - finish. no time to talk of aiki love and floating around the universe - no time to breath through your toes or slap your attacker with a coloured ribbon. - This would be a good time to test your `no touch` throws or perhaps try a `Ki Blast` ( reality check ) - Good luck

The Fight in Brief

Rik Ellis  Aikido - MMA wins in 46 seconds of the first round. Rik `hammer` Ellis fought Kriston`hulk`Buxey for the UK1 MMA light heavyweight title and championship belt.
Don't let the 46 seconds undermine the battle that these two men fought.
Kriston Buxey really brought it on with a great opening shot that spurred Rik in to action in a fight Rik was just as determined to win as was Buxey.

After the opening shot from Buxey Rik allowed his 18 pounds heavier opponent to push him back into the cage wall where Rik made a very effective tight `Tenkan` turn off the cage wall taking his opponent down into a punishing `ground n pound` finishing with a rear naked choke in the 46th second of the first round.

Rik `hammer` Ellis fought Kriston`hulk`Buxey for the UK1 MMA light heavyweight title and championship belt. Rik won with a RNC in a hard fought 46 seconds. Don't let the 46 seconds undermine the battle that these two men fought.
